Participation – Name the E-newsletter!Welcome to the first issue of our un-named e-newsletter. Ideas come best out of large groups of people, so we’ll run a contest for best name. Send your suggestions to weekly@consistent-life.org. This is to be about one page each week, and we need people on the lookout for good content. You can send in short pieces, letters to the editor, or blog postings promoting the consistent life ethic, action opportunities, or your favorite short quotations. Member groups are invited to submit updates on your activities promoting the cause (50-150 words) and links to their web page.
In the News U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak, who has unflinchingly led the effort to keep abortion funding out of health care reform, was also one of 65 Representatives voting March 12 for Rep. Dennis Kucinich's resolution to pull U.S. troops home from Afghanistan. Both courageous positions require him to stand up to Democratic Party leadership. Other anti-abortion House members who voted for this anti-war resolution include Republicans John Campbell, John Duncan, Timothy Johnson, Walter Jones, and Ron Paul.
Sharing the Message Consistent Life is in the process of producing and revising a series of brochures aimed at different audiences. Currently, we have two finished, linked below as on-line pdfs so you can print as many as you need. Anyone inspired to draft a proposed brochure for a different target audience is invited to send it to president@consistent-life.org.
Historic Peace Churches Catholic Tradition Member Group Action Friends Witness for a Pro-life Peace Testimony is a Quaker group that co-sponsored three full-page ads with Consistent Life in 2008 in Friends Journal. In 2009, it sponsored two more ads, including a challenge to the American Friends Service Committee to re-think its abortion position. This led to an invitation to write a personal journey article, that being a common approach among Quakers, which was published in the February 2010 issue and is linked to on the magazine's web page. Quotation of the WeekElizabeth McAlister, peace activist Sojourners, Nov., 1980, pp. 23-24.
“At the time when I first became aware of public pressure for legal abortions, I was listening more intently to the body counts out of Vietnam. It struck me then that a society that counts human life in the same spirit as it measures ball scores ought to expect an outcry for legal abortions.” | |
