Date & Venue for 25th Anniversary Conference Set

We are happy to announce that our 25th Anniversary Conference will be held March 9-11, 2012 at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland, a short distance from Washington, DC. It’s a non-profit operation featuring both standard hotel-style and lower-priced accommodations, reasonably priced buffet meals accommodating different diets, and complete conference facilities.
This will be a great opportunity to delve deeper into the consistent life ethic (CLE), learn ways to promote the CLE and network with other supporters. We hope you will join us!
You can always find information at our Conference Web Page. We’ll be providing updates on speakers and other activities frequently in Peace & Life Connections. Registration will be available shortly.

CL Members Are Busy
- Two CL endorsers have joined the opposition to the presence of foreign troops in Haiti. Fr. Roy Bourgeois, founder of School of the Americas Watch (SOAWATCH), and Nobel Peace Laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel of Argentina signed this week's letter to Latin American Presidents requesting that they "withdraw all military personnel from this so-called peacekeeping operation." The letter said that there has been a pattern of human rights violations including rape and sexual exploitation. Fr. Bourgeois led a delegation to Haiti October 8.

CL member Jacqueline Haessly announces the publication of the latest edition of Volume One of her 1980 book, Peacemaking: Family Activities for Justice and Peace: Facing Challenges and Embracing Possibilities." Volume Two, Examining Values, Developing Skills, and Acting for Peace in the Family, the Community, and the World, will be available later this fall. CL Presence at Call to Action Coming Up
Call to Action is an organization which defines itself as progressive Catholics. Their annual conference (to be held this year Nov. 4-6 in Milwaukee) is large and one of the best places for us to have a presence, because while some are hostile to the anti-abortion view, many are open to understanding it if it’s placed in the context of opposition to war, the death penalty, and other forms of killing. But because some don’t understand it just yet, this isn’t preaching to the choir. Others who are consistent-life are strengthened in their convictions by our presence.
We’ve arranged an exhibit again this year, and this comes with two free registrations. One is taken, but the other is available to someone who’d like to go and spend part of the time at the exhibit. Anyone who’s interested in this opportunity for very fruitful dialog can contact weekly@consistent-life.org.
And of course if you’re going to the conference anyway, be sure to stop by!

Quotation of the Week
Daniel Berrigan, 2007
Signing an online petition in opposition to Amnesty International’s move to endorse abortion as a “right”
"My moral conviction on abortion and the rights of the unborn are more serious than 'a point of view' . . . It's as close to my conscience as war and the death penalty."
