“Women Betrayed” Rallies

CL Board member Lisa Stiller, who spoke at the Portland Oregon rally held July 28, reports: “being persistent, I got to speak to the TV station and was on the air for 5 seconds, the major newspaper, and a news radio station. When I spoke, I talked of how women are betrayed by abortion, and what do we need to do instead, the things women need in the way of resources, support, and how we need to recognize that if we want to address why women seek abortions, we needed to provide women with these kinds of supports. I spoke about prolife feminism. I received a lot of applause during the talk!”

CL Board member Thad Crouch (pictured below) reports from Austin, Texas: “with no plan on my part, I was interviewed by the Texas Observer,  a group that provides video footage for 22 TX TV stations,  and CBS radio because they were drawn to my clever signs . . . I was merely expecting them to want my signs for B-roll footage. Somewhere between 6 and 8 video and photo journalists requested to shoot my well-worded but not so artistically beautiful signs.

More Good Comments from CL Supporters on Planned Parenthood Scandal

The fourth and fifth videos for this scandal are now available.

Marilyn Kopp has a letter to the editor published, including the line: “Abortion in fact more clearly reflects patriarchal values: condoning violence on the grounds of personal privacy and using killing to resolve conflict.”

Charles Camosy has an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times including a comparison to animal-rights activists: “What drives them?  Animals are helpless creatures, often subject to terrible violence, and they cannot speak for themselves. . . . And in their zeal to bring us face to face with animal suffering, tellingly, they regularly use undercover videos. These videos have been quite successful in bringing some terrible realities to light – for example, the conditions of chickens in the worst factory farms. Anti-abortion activists are driven in similar ways. Prenatal children are also helpless and often subject to terrible violence.”

Latest CL Blog

CL Board member Richard Stith has an “Open Letter to Fellow Human Rights Activists” that explains how abortion interferes with establishing human rights, for women as well as for children.

Nukes and the Pro-Life Christian:
A Conservative Takes a Second Look at the Morality of Nuclear Weapons
Sojourners, August 2015

Note: August 6 and 9 are the 70th anniversary of the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a major commemoration for us anti-nuclear activists.

I was sitting in the wrong end of a police wagon the first time I questioned nuclear weapons . . .
We had been protesting abortion. I was thinking about nuclear weapons because a couple of those in the bus were peace activists who had long rap sheets from years of anti-war protests. I, on the other hand, was a Republican-voting, independent Baptist church-attending, conservative-leaning, law-abiding (well, until now) kind of Christian. I was awed—and grateful—that these peaceniks would join the likes of me in common cause against another kind of violence. My new friends adhered to the “seamless garment” philosophy, also called the consistent life ethic, one committed to the protection of all human life, whether from war, poverty, racism, capital punishment, euthanasia, or abortion.
