Movie “Gimme Shelter” Now Out
Jason Jones sends us this: “It is only fitting that today (January 24), just two days after the anniversary of the Roe v Wade decision, a life-affirming movie, Gimme Shelter, is hitting the theaters with some of Hollywood's biggest stars!
As the Executive Producer of Bella and founder of Movie to Movement I have seen firsthand the power film has to change culture. Gimme Shelter is the most powerful pro-life film I have seen and has the potential to change our nation.
Gimme Shelter follows a pregnant teenager (Vanessa Hudgens), who runs away from her drug-addicted mother (Rosario Dawson) to find her father (Branden Fraser). After finding out she is pregnant her father takes her to get an abortion and she runs away again only to end up pregnant, homeless and on the streets. With the help of a hospital chaplain (James Earl Jones), she is welcomed into her first real home in an extraordinary tale of survival and redemption inspired by actual events.”
January 24 is “limited release,” the movie is more widely available the next week.

Reviews of Movie “Gimme Shelter”
Variety Magazine decries “this well-acted but dogmatic pro-life message movie,” saying: “The film is hamstrung by its fidelity to real-life inspirational models.”
The Philadelphia Inquirer review opines: “A happy-smiley Christian fairy tale disguised as a hard-hitting shard of social realism.”
More positively, Sheila O’Malley of Roger Ebert Reviews: “The film never says the words ‘pro-life’ or ‘pro-choice.’ It genuinely seems to be about how the system has broken down entirely, and how sometimes it is up to privately funded charities to provide a light at the end of the tunnel.”
And in the Chicago Sun-Times, Richard Roeper: “Writer-director Krauss embraces the spiritual elements of this story without turning it into a heavy-handed religious lecture.”

Action Opportunity
It’s always nice when you can support the cause by going to see a movie; adding to the box office figures encourages Hollywood to think in more positive terms about this kind of film. If you like what you see, be sure to tell your friends and social networks as well – word-of-mouth is quite powerful for movies.
The reviews are coming in quite negative from the professionals, though high from audiences. Several movie sites have places where, in addition to simple customer ratings, customer written reviews are welcome. Those of us with consistent-life insights can use the opportunity for education.

West Coast Walk for Life
The west coast held its annual Walk for Life in San Francisco last Saturday (January 25) as part of the Roe v. Wade anniversary commemorations, and Consistent Life had a presence there, including a table before the Walk. Lisa Stiller reports: “Wonderful response! I'm going home with a much lighter bag!”

Quotation of the Week
Graciela Olivarez
The poor cry out for justice and equality and we respond with legalized abortion.
. . . I believe that in a society that permits the life of even one individual (born or unborn) to be dependent on whether that life is “wanted” or not, all its citizens stand in danger. . . . We do not have equal opportunities. Abortion is a cruel way out. |
